Clearly Superior Heli Rotor Wrap

Howdy Heli-Heads!

Since having too many things spinning around all at once makes me both dizzy and nervous (:-) I never took up your hobby myself. Until some of you get to try this stuff yourselves, please regard the "advice" below as EXTREMELY questionable, more in the way of suggestions and pointers that haven't yet been tried out in real life. Only experiment with this if you have enough experience to be able to make informed decisions about what will be suitable for your particular heli and flight regimes.

After a few people try it, I'll put up any info (text and/or pics) about blades that do or don't work well with the CS covering depending on what seems appropriate.

The main CS page tells you how to get a few heli-samples for free to try out so you can see if they'll work for you.

Here's how I did this:

I shrunk the tubing all the way with a heat gun.

Afterwards I held the blade upright, heated the covering from one side and pulled it by hand to the opposite side of the blade so that the CS would mold around the curvy bits.

I repeated this on the other side of the blade, then, while the CS was still a little soft, pulled the loose end up and pinched it with my fingers from both sides so it would conform to the shape of the tip.

After the tubing cooled I cut the spare end with a scissors. The seam could be sealed with CA, dope or other suitable adhesive.

This shows the inboard end of another blade. As you can see, the manufacturer trimmed the covering so that the wood is exposed in the center. The wood has some kind of clear finish so it won't absorb moisture or get dirty / oily, but is otherwise uncovered.

This seems like a reasonable way to go for both inboard ends as well for the outboard end of blades with unrounded ends - just cover the blade all the way, then trim the overhang with a blade or sandpaper and seal with CA, dope or clear nail polish.
