CS (Clearly Superior) Ancient Heat-Shrink Secrets

TOP SECRET -- Don't tell ANYBODY
(EXCEPT OF COURSE FOR ALL YOUR FRIENDS) (:-)

If you're like me you usually measure out a pack and cut the heatshrink to size only to find that it's too long. So you trim it. Too long again. So you trim it again. At this point Murphy takes over and you find that your piece of tubing magically went from "too long" to "too short" without every passing through "just right". Bummer!! What to do?

Well, if you're covering your cells with heat-shrink that's both thin and transparent, there IS a better way:

  1. Start by cutting a piece that's about 1" longer than the pack you're covering.
  2. Cut this piece approximately in half.
  3. Slip one half over the battery pack, hold the end in position and shrink it.
  4. Slip the other half over the battery pack, hold it in position at the other end and shrink it. The two pieces will overlap in the middle and fully protect the pack without your having to fiddle around to find just the right length and you won't end up with any more "too short" wasted pieces.
Don't worry about the looks - because the material is so thin the joint will be invisible and nobody will know you "cheated".

If you have any questions about this feel free to e-mail me.
