Some winged (some flying, some walking) models. I also
have some pictures taken in "the workshop" before all the
"covering" (what there was of it) was attached but I'm not sure
how airworthy these models are and if more of these pictures
are worth posting (:-)
As you can see, the pits area was very crowded with all
sorts of sharp implements and instruments being weilded
in close proximity. I didn't have a copy of the AMA
Safety Code handy so I'm not really sure, but I don't
think they'd have approved (:-)
On the left is a rack of lightweight covering materials and on
the right is a small part of the workshops were repairs and
alterations were performed to get the "birds" back in the air.
LEFT - sorry, my
threaded inserts do not come in 5" size and
I'm not sure where you'd get them from. RIGHT - in spite of
the chaos involved in having 4 mechanics working together
nobody got hurt and all worked out well in the end. NASCAR
pits crews were observed huddled and blushing in the corner
but there may have been more than professional jealousy
involved (:-)
More of the same.
Out of chaos comes order. Once the models approached the
runway, proper spacing and frequency control was rigourously
enforced. (Unfortunately the jostling crowds on the upper public
areas were not cooperative and these are the best pictures I have
taken from this position.) After the "taxi tests" shown here the
wings and other accoutrements were installed as shown in the
first three pictures above.
The mechanics waiting for their charges to return to their tender
ministrations.
