The fittings will fit the .098" carbon rods, but they need a little work to do so. 3 of the methods are:

1. Drill the fitting out with a drill bit held in a pin vise or similar.
   (DO NOT USE A POWERED TOOL HERE BECAUSE YOU WILL
   MESS UP THE FITTING AND PROBABLY HURT YOURSELF.)

2. Sand the ends of the rods slightly.
   Sanding Sticks or regular sandpaper works well for this.
   (AGAIN, KEEP AWAY FROM POWER TOOLS AS YOU'LL REMOVE TOO
   MUCH MATERIAL AND PROBABLY CREATE SPLINTERS.)

3. Boil the Fittings:
   Eric D. from NYC suggests that if you boil the fittings for 30 seconds they'll
   soften / expand enough to allow you to fit the rods more easily.
